The success of an agile transformation initiative is dependent significantly on the alignment of the initiative with organizational priorities. For effective alignment of Organizational objectives, all planning activities need to be linked across six levels of planning. PM Power recommends a six layer approach that has elements of top down as well as bottom up aspects, to ensure that the relevant levels of detailing are done at appropriate levels.
The role of senior management is thus very critical.
In our engagements, we start with an interaction with the senior leadership team from all stakeholder teams to synthesize the appropriate roadmap. In addition we also engage with senior leadership for:
- Confirming approaches and priorities
- Sharing progress updates and to surface any impediments anticipates to request support
- Exploring refinements to various practices related to engineering, governance – in particular, reviews
- Securing sponsorship and involvement for the pilot and other projects
Some of these sessions also have elements of fun, through exercises and games to communicate the key knowledge era paradigms that led to formulation of agile approaches in software development.
